The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from more than 15,000 types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. The CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard or can injure children. The CPSC works to ensure the safety of consumer products that include the playground equipment products associated with playground safety.

ASTM is an open forum for the development of high quality, market relevant international standards used around the globe. In the playground equipment industry that means certification conformance to standard specification for playground equipment for public use, children play spaces and equipment, standard specification for impact attenuation of surface systems under and around playground equipment, standard specification for engineered wood fiber for use as a playground safety surface under and around playground equipment.

The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) sets forth guidelines and standards for accessible design, which can include playground equipment or other recreational equipment.
